A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Cornet, cornett (Eng.noun): (cornu, a horn) “a hollow horn-like [i.e. horn-shaped] growth” (Jackson); cornet, “a horn-like structure” (Harris & Harris): for botanical usage, cf. corniculum,-i (s.n.II), q.v. [cornet: dim. of L. cornu, ‘horn,’ > the French: “something rolled or formed in the shape of a cone; as a piece of paper rolled into a cone shape and twisted at the end for use as a container” (WIII), such as for grocer’s wares; ice-cream cone]; see ‘cornet-shaped;’ see cornu,-us (s.n.IV).
