concavus,-a,-um (adj.A): “hollow, as the inside of a saucer” (Jackson); “hollowed out; basin-shaped’ (Stearn 1996); “concave, curved inwards, hollowed out; cf. recavus” (Stearn); recavus, “arched inward, concave” (Stearn). concave, curved inwards?, hollowed out [> L. concavus,-a,-um (adj.A), “hollow, concave; arched, vaulted; bent, curved (Lewis & Short)]; opp. planus,-a,-um (adj.A), flat, level; cf. intrusus,-a,-um (part.A), pushed inward; cf. intromissus,-a,-um (part.A), pushed or set inward; see concave (Eng. adj.).

concaviusculus,-a,-um (adj.A): somewhat concave. Concava,-orum (pl.n.II), abl.pl. concavis, sc. loca: hollow places, hollows [> L. concavo,-atum, 1. to make hollow, to hollow out, to make round].

-[Aquilegia] petala 5, inter sepala in calcar concavum deorsum producta (B&H), etale 5, prolonged between the sepals into a concave spur.

-[Menispermaceae] semen cavitatis conforme, facie semper concavum v. saltem sulcatum (B&H), the seed the same shape as the cavity, the face always concave or even sulcate.

- endocarpium utroque latere concavum, parum intromissum, haud pertusum (B&H), the endocarp concave on each side, somewhat put inward, hardly pierced through.

- petala 6, sepalis breviora, concava v. circa filamenta involuta (B&H), petals 6, shorter than the sepals, concave or involute around the filaments.

- petala 6, plana v. leviter concava (B&H), petals 6, flat or lightly concave.

- seminum basis intrusa v. concava (B&H), the base of the seeds pushed inward or concave.

- [Lichenoides; lichens] E foliis & eorum laciniis crebrae enascuntur scutellæ, pediculis modice longis insidentes, ab initio concavæ, dein magis planæ (Dill.), scutellae crowded arising from the leaves and their laciniae, seated on medium-long pedicels, in the beginning concave, then more flat.

-[lichens] Scutellae vero in extremis ramis hærent, ab initio parvæ concavae, dein latiores & planae (Dill.), [but] the scutellae [i.e. apothecia] adhere to the outermost branches, initially small, concave, then wider and flat.

- concavo-concavus,-a,-um (adj.A): concavo-concave: concave on both sides, used esp. of a lens (WIII).

- concavo-convexus,-a,-um (adj.A): concavo-convex: “concave on one side and convwex on the other; (of a lens) having the concave side of greater curvature than the convex side” (WIII).
