A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Comes,-itis (s.c.III), abl. sg. comite: a companion, comrade, associate, partaker, sharer; attendant, servant; (late classical, medieval Latin) a count (= English Earl); partner (whether male or female); the suite, retinue of friends, relatives, scholars ... which accompanied magistrates into the provinces; the attendants of distinguished private individuals (Lewis & Short).

Band, train, procession, suite; collection, array, group, set; a troop (Wiktionary May 2019).

Count (Eng.noun) “> LL comit-, comes, > L. associate, companion, one of the imperial court or train, lit., one who goes with another, > com- + it- -es, > ire, to go: a European nobleman whose rank corresponds to that of an English earl” (WIII).

- [fungi] rarior in regionibus nostris praecoxque species aliquoties in sylvaticis sicciusculis, praesertim in pinetis viarum comes etc. reperta fuit. Julio, Augusto (S&A), the species is rarer in our regions, and early-developing, it was found several times in forested places, rather dry ones, especially associates in the Pineta [i.e. Pine associations] of road-sides, etc. In July, August.

- Joannes Мichael Pieruccius Flor. Соmes (Mich.), John Michael Pieruccio Flor[entinus] Count.

- Ferdinandus Vincentius Ranutius Сospius Сomes & Senator Bonon (Mich.), Ferdinand Vincentius Ranutius Cospius Count and Senator Bonon [Bonon = family name (Bonacina family).

- ad parietes sуlvulae ruris Domini Senatoris, & Сomitis Ferrantis Сарponi (Mich.), on the [building] walls of the plantation of the [estate; farm] of the proprietor, senator [i.e. member of the senate] and Count Ferrante Capponi.
