A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
comalis,-e (adj.A): comal, relating to the coma, i.e. leaves or branches tufted at the apex of an axis; relating to the apical foliage (canopy);

- [moss] caulis ramis 1—4 remotiusculis strictis v. rarius curviusculis crassis, comalibus brevissimis obtusis densissime positis (C. Mueller), stem with the branches 1-4, somewhat remote, straight or more rarely somewhat curved, thick, the comal [branches] very short, obtuse very densely arranged.

- [moss] Sphagnum compactum, ramis confertis crassis erectis; comales ceteris similes (C. Mueller), a Sphagnum compact, with branches crowded, thick, erect; the comal [ones] similar to the rest.

- [moss] ramis subapproximatis elongatis deflexis julaceis, comalibus densissimis stellato - squarrosis (C. Mueller), with branches almost close to one another, elongate, bent downwards, julaceous, the comal [ones] very dense, stellate-squarrose.

- [moss] folia comalia s. perichaetialia lineari-lanceolata elongata grossius serrata, margine (C. Mueller), the comal or [s.= seu, ‘or’] perichaetial linear-lanceolate, elongate, more coarsely serrate at the margin.
