A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

cinnamomeus,-a,-um (adj.A), also cinnamicus,-a,-um (adj.A), also cinnamomicus,-a,-um (adj.A) (sec. Jackson): cinnamon-colored, 'light brown mixed with yellow and red' (Lindley); “cinnamon color, a light yellowish brown” (Jackson); “brown like cinnamon” (Stearn 1996); smelling of cinnamon [> L. cinnamomum,-i (s.n.II), see cinnamon];

- [fungi] ludit nimirum per varios gradus inter rufum ac cinnamomeum, squamulis saturatioribus (S&A), to be sure it varies through different degrees between rufous and cinnamon, with the small scales deeper [i.e. in these colors].

- [fungi] cinnamomea plerumque: colore tamen etiam variat luteo, flavo, imo ochroleuco, quo insignem semel in trunco abiegno invenimus caespitem. Aprili (S&A), usually cinnamom (colored): however it also varies with the color a deep yellow, paler yellow, even ochre-white [i.e. yellowish-white], by which once we found a remarkable clump on a fir trunk. In April.

- [fungi] pulvis spermaticus e croceo ferrugineus; var. B., pileo cinnamomeo ac rubedine subtus etiam minus vivace puraque distincta (S&A), the reproductive powder [i.e. spores] from crocus-yellow to rusty-red; the var. B. is distinct by the cinnamon-colored pileus and by the reddness below also less vivid and pure.

- [fungus] lamellae e colore initiali praepulchro in dilute argillaceo- cinnamomeum cito transeunt (S&A), the lamellae quickly change from a very beautiful initial color into a pale argillaceo [i.e. yellowish-brown] -cinnamon-color [i.e. light reddish-brown].

Osmunda cinnamomea, Cinnamon-fern, cinnamon-colored; Rosa cinnamomea L., the Cinnamon-rose “from fragrance supposed to suggest cinnamon” (Fernald 1950).

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
