A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Cimex,-icis (s.m.III), abl. sg. cimice: a bug, an insect;

- Cimicifuga foetida: herba foetidissima ad cimices fugandos in Sibiria adhibita (DeCandolle), an herb very bad-smelling used in Siberia for driving away insects.

Cimicifuga,-ae (s.f.I), Bugbane, > L. cimex, a bug + fugare, to drive away (Fernald 1950).

Cimicifuga foetida: herba foetidissima ad cimices fugandos in Sibiria adhibita (DeCandolle), an herb very bad-smelling used in Siberia for driving away insects.

Cimex,-icis (s.m.III), the genus of the bedbug (Cimex lectularius, ‘of the couch’), “the type genus of Cimicidae comprising the common bedbug and a few related insects” (WIII); Cimex pipistrelli, the bedbug of bats.

 

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
