cicatrice; “any kind of scar formed by the separation of one part from another” (Lindley); ‘the mark left by the separation of one part from another, as by the leaf from the stem” (Jackson); scar, q.v.;

- [Cardiospermum] semina solitaria, globosa, basi cicatrice cordata notata (Linn.), the seeds are solitary, globose, at the base marked with a cordate [i.e. heart-shaped] scar.

- cicatrices conidiales conspicuae, incrassatae, scars conidial conspicuous, thickened.

- vaginae caducae cicatrices circulares relinquentes, the sheaths caducous leaving behind circular scars.

- drupae styli cicatrice nunc subterminali, nunc a basi parum remota notatae (B&H), drupes marked with a subterminal scar of the style, sometimes [the scar is]somewhat remote from the base.

- stipulae ad apices ramorum magnae, gemmam includentes, valvatim clausae, mox caducae, cicatrice annulari relicta (B&H), stipules at the apices of the branches large, enclosing a bud, valvately closed, soon falling away, with an annular scar left behind.

- [Hippomane] Mense fere exacto, primo amento delapso, cicatricem relinquente, amenta minora baseos elongantur, florentque (Swartz), almost at the close of the month, when the ament first has fallen away, leaving a scar behind, the smaller aments of the bases are elongated, and they flower.

- [Conchidium] pedunculus post folia delapsa in centro pseudobulbi terminalis apparet sed revera ad cicatricem foliorum v. gemmae terminalis lateralis est (B&H), the peduncle after the leaves have fallen off, appears terminal in the center of the pseudobulb, but actually it is lateral to the scar of the leaves or of the terminal bud.

- Embryo incurvus v. rarius rectus, radicula ad cicatricem styli spectante; (B&H), embryo incurved or more rarely straight, with the radicle facing the scar of the style.

Umbilicus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. umbilico, “the hilum of a seed; the scar formed by its separation from the placenta” (Lindley).

Tetrad scar, q.v.: cicatrix,-icis (s.f.III) tetradica (adj.A), abl. sg. cicatrice tetradica.

“When a leaf separates by an articulation, it leaves a scar or cicatrix” (Bentley).
