chen-, cheno: in Gk. comp. a goose, gander = L. anser,-eris (s.m.III), q.v., “in reference to many of the species having leaves similar to the webbed feet of the goose” (Paxton); “in allusion to the shape of the leaves” (Fernald 1950)] [> Gk. chEn,a goose + pous, foot]; see goose; see anser,-eris (s.m.III);

- chenopodus,-a,-um (adj.A): with the shape of a goose’s foot.

Chenolea,-ae (s.f.I): “supposed to be derived from ‘chen,’ a goose and ‘leia,’ prey. Chenopodiaceae” (Paxton).

Chenopodium L., Goosefoot, [> Gk. chen,a goose + pous, foot, “in allusion to the shape of the [often triangular to rhombic-ovate] leaves” (Fernald 1950)].
