celer (m), celeris (f), celere (n) (adj.B): swift, fleet, quick, speedy, hasty, precipitate; rapid, hurried; compar. celerior,-ius (adj.B), superl. celerissimus,-a,-um (adj.A), but cf. fata celerrima (Lewis & Short); syn. expeditus, promptus, velox, citatus; opp. tardus, segnis, lentus; see swift;

NOTE: apparently (Lewis & Short) declined like acer (m.), acris (f.), acre (n.) (adj.B) but with retention of the ‘er’ throughout;

- (various weapons) sagitta celer, a swift or speedy arrow.

- (flowing water) flumen,-inis (s.n.III) celere, abl. sg. flumine celeri, a swift river; rivulus,-i (s.m.II) celer, abl. sg. rivulo celeri, a swift creek.

- celeripes,-pedis (adj.B): swift-footed.

- in currentibus celeribus aquarum, in swift currents of water.

- vortex,-icis (s.m.III) celer, abl. sg. vortice celeri: a swift whirlpool.

- (of animals) aves celeres, swift birds; equus celer, a fleet or swift horse.

- sententiis celeribus, with hasty (rash, precipitate) opinions.

- motus trichomatum regulariter et lente terebrans, haud irregularis et celer, motion of filaments regularly and slowly turning spirally, not irregular and rapid (Stearn).
