A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

cauligenus,-a,-um (adj.A): “arising from a stem” (Lindley); “arising from a stem” (Jackson) [> L. caulis, stem + L. -genus,-a,-um , producing, born] = caulicola,-ae (s.f.I);

- [fungus] Cauligena epiphyllaque species frequens lecta in Galio sylvatico locis acclivibus umbrosis herbosis (inter Rengersdorf et Cunnersdorf) (S&A), a cauligenous [i.e. growing on stems] and epiphyllous [i.e. growing on leaves] species frequently collected on Galium sylvaticum in shady, grassy upward slopes.

- [fungus] var. BB [beta beta], in caulibus petiolisque Urticae dioicae tempore pluvio aliquoties lecta, specie forsan sejungi posset: cauligena ingens valde bullata hemiellipsoidea e flavo sordide ochrea, macula subobliterata (S&A), [the variety], collected from time to time on the stems and petioles of Urtica dioica in the rainy season, perhaps might be able to be excluded from the species: growing on stems, inordinately large, strongly bullate [i.e. having a rounded knob or boss], half-ellipsoid, dirtily ochreous from yellow, with the macula somewhat erased.

- [fungus] a, in caule foliisque Polygoni Aviculariae, antecedente rarior; BB [beta beta], cauligena etiam aeque ac epiphylla in Vicia Faba frequens (S&A), [var.] a, on the stem and leaves of Polygonum Avicularia, more rare than the preceding [sc. species]; [var.] BB, growing on stems, also as much as the [upper surface] of leaves, frequent on Vicia Faba.

- [fungus] [Puccinia graminis]: [var.] a, graminis [of grass]; lineae in a, cauligena exacte parallelae, saepe longissimae: in eadem epiphylla lineari-oblongae, sparsae, breviusculae, maculae potius nuncupandae (S&A), lines in [var.] a, arising on the stem strictly parallel, often very long: in the same [variety] epiphyllous [i.e. on the upper leaf surface], linear-oblong, scattered, a little short, which should rather be called spots [or blotches].

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
