A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Bursa,-ae (s.f.I), abl. sg. bursa: LL bag, purse, money-bag, saddle-bag; the antheridium of Chara (Jackson) [cf. Gk. bursa (s.f.I) “the skin stripped off, a hide; a drum” (Liddell & Scott)]; cf. bursum,-i (s.n.II); see leather; see skin.

bursa-pastoris, a species of Capsella, the Shepherd's Purse, Pick-Pocket: “Shepherd’s-pouch, Bursa an old generic name” (Fernald 1950); Codium bursa, an alga.

NOTE: this is the burse, the student's allowance (dispensor of: bursar).
