A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Buccae (pl.f.I), gen.pl. buccarum, abl.pl. buccis: “(obsol.) the lateral sepals or wings of the flower of an Aconite” (Lindley; Jackson) [> L. ‘cheeks’ (Jackson); a puffed or puffed out cheek; > L. bucca,-ae (s.f.I): “the cheek (puffed or filled out in speaking, eating, etc.; differs from genae, the side of the face, the cheeks, and from mala, the upper part of the cheek under the eyes; mostly in the plural” (Lewis & Short); “the lower part of the cheek(s), (in pl.) the chaps, jaw; the mouth; (applied to anything hollow): a cavity” (Glare).
