A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Bone: os, gen.sg. ossis (s.n.III), acc. sg. os, abl.sg. osse, nom.& acc. pl. ossa, dat. & abl. pl. ossibus; see oste-, osteo-; -osteum,-i (s.n.II): in Gk. comp. bone-, bony [> Gk. osteon (s.n.II), a bone; Lat. os, ossis]; see skull; see skeleton;

- aspectu ossis piscarii, with the appearance of a fish bone.

- os sepiae, cuttlefish bone (pharm. Muldoon).

little or small bone, ossicle: ossiculum,-i (s.n.II), q.v., abl. sg. ossiculo.

Herring-bone, as in a pattern: os (gen. sg. ossis, q.v.) piscarium (adj. A):

- ramis lateralibus habitu ossibus piscariis similibus, with lateral branches in appearance similar to fish bones.

Spica,-ae (s.f.I) testacea (adj.a), abl.sg. spica testacea: “tiles arranged in the form of an ear of corn, herring-bone work” (Glare); spicatus,-a,-um (part.A) “(of bricks) laid herring-bone fashion” (Glare).

bone-breaking: ossifragus,-a,-um (adj.A).
bone, growing on: ossicola,-ae (s.f.I).
bone-like, resembling: osteodes (adj.B), osteoideus,-a,-um (adj.A).
bone, relating to: ostinus,-a,-um (adj.A): of or pertaining to bone; osseus,-a,-um (adj.A).
bone-shaped, having a terminal knob: ossiformis,-e (adj.B).
bone-white: osseoalbus,-a,-um (adj.A).
