A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Batus,-i (s.f.I), abl. sg. bato, = Gk. batos, the blackberry-bush; batus Idaea, the raspberry-bush (Rubus idaeus); see bramble, briar; see shrub; see rubus,-i (s.m.II).

Species Batorum, L. H. Bailey: The Genus Rubus in North America.

Rubus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. rubo, the genus of black-, dew-, and rasp-berries is a masculine noun.

NOTE: a batologist, batologus,-i (s.m.II), is a student of the brambles, the species and forms of Rubus; batologia,-ae (s.f.I), the study of brambles; adj. batologicus,-a,-um (adj.A), batological.
