Auctoritas,-atis (s.f.III), abl.sg. auctoritate: authority, “in general, a producing, production, invention, cause; a view, opinion, judgment; counsel, advice, persuasion, encouragement to something; will, decision, command, decree; auctoritas senatus, the will of the senate; auctoritas populi, the popular will or decision; powerk, authority, reputation, dignity, influence, weight; an example pattern, model; the things which serve for the verification or establishment of a fact; a record, document; the name of a person who is security for something, authority” (after Lewis & Short);

- specimina tamen authentica: Lichenoides gelatinosum tenue reticulatum DILL. Hist. musc. p. 138, n. 21, tab. 19, fig. 21, quae ad eam ab ill. SWARTZ et LINDENBERG relata sunt, inter Algas (Anadyomene sp. ex auctoritate illustr. J. G. AGARDH in litt.) ponenda (Lindb.);

however, the authentic [i.e. authoritative] specimens: Lichenoides gelatinosum tenue reticulatum Dillenius, Historia muscorum page 138, number 21, plate 19, figure 21, which were referred to this [sc. species] by the eminent Swartz and Lindenberg, are to be placed among the Algae (Anadyomeme sp. according to the authority of the eminent J.G. Agardh in correspondence.
