A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
asymmetric, asymmetrical, not symmetrical, having no plane, axis or center of symmetry; not divisible into equal halves; irregular in shape; syn. zygomorphic: asymmetrus,-a,-um (adj.A), asymmetricus,-a,-um (adj.A); zygomorphus,-a,-um (adj.A), zygomorphicus,-a,-um (adj.A);

- flores unisexuales, asymmetrici (B&H), flowers unisexual, asymmetrical.

- corollae zygomorphicae, abl.pl. corollis zygomorphicis.

- laminiis folii leviter asymmetricis, with the laminae of the leaf slightly asymmetrical.

- torus brevis v. elongatus, symmetricus v. asymmetricus (B&H), torus short or elongate, symmetric or asymmetric.

- (moss) theca asymmetrica arcuata, orificio obliquo minimo (Mueller), the theca asymmetric, arched with the orifice slanting, very small.

NOTE: irregularis,-e (adj.B): irregular, 'bilaterally symmetrical; of a flower in which all' parts are not similar in size and arrangement on the receptacle', asymmetricus,-a,-um (adj.A) 'asymmetric;' zygomorphicus,-a,-um (adj.A) 'divisible into equal halves along one plane only,' inordinatus,-a,-um (adj.A) 'disordered,' abnormis,-e (adj.B) 'without rule, abnormal;' inaequalis,-e (adj.B) 'unequal.
