Apios,-ii (s.f.II), abl. sg. Apio Groundnut; “Name apios, Greek for pear; from the somewhat pyriform tuberous enlargements of the rootstock” (Fernald 1950); “Potato-bean, groundnut; from the shape of the tubers of Apios Americana …” (Stearn 1996); a genus in the Leguminosae: note the feminine gender: A. americana forma pilosa Steyerm.; A. Priceana Robins.
