A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
anthelmintic, also anthelminthic, expelling or destroying parasitic worms, esp. of the intestine, said of the young shoots of Ptelea trifoliata (Xanthoxylaceae) in Lindley: anthelmicus,-a,-um (adj.A), anthelminticus,-a,-um (adj.A), anthelmius,-a,-um (adj.A), all “acting against and expelling intestinal worms” (Stearn 1996) [> Gk. anti + helmith-, helmins, worm]; cf. anguifugus,-a,-um (adj.A): = vermifugus,-a,-um (adj.A), in medicine, expelling worms or worm-like parasites from the intestines; cf. vermifugus,-i (s.m.II), a vermifuge; see -fugus,-a,-um (adj.A);

- Usus medic. Anthelminthicus pro infantibus: fructus cum Saccharo esus (Swartz), medical use. An anthelminthic [i.e. vermifuge] for infants: the fruit eaten with sugar.

anguicidalis,-e (adj.B), tending to kill or destroy snakes.

Nematocida,-ae (s.comm.I): nematocide, nematicide, or nemacide, “a substance or preparation used to destroy nematodes, esp. those that attack crop plants” (WIII).
