A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Androecium, the site of male reproduction; collective term for the stamens; “the male system of a flower, the stamens collectively” (Jackson); (in mosses and liverworts) the male inflorescence, including protective paraphyses, scales, leaves (bracts) and antheridia; (bryophytes) “antheridia and surrounding bracts; the perigonium, q.v.; the male inflorescence” (Magill 1990): androecium,-ii (s.n.II), abl. sg. androecio {> Gk. anEr, gen.sg. andros, a man + oikos, house]; also called the perigonium,-ii (s.n.II), q.v.; see qynoecium;

- gynoecii androecii et fructus structura in toto ordine uniformis est (B&H), the organization of the gynoecium, androecium and the fruit is uniform in the whole order.

[in Orchideae] Pollinarium,-ii (s.n.II), q.v., abl.sg. pollinario, nom. & acc. pl. pollinaria, dat. & abl.pl. pollinariis: pollinarium, “(obsol.), the collection of stamens in a flower; the same as Androeceum [sic.]” (Lindley); “= 1. the androecium” (Jackson).

NOTE: gynandrus,-a,-um (adj.A): having the androecium adnate to the gynoecium.

NOTE: the stalk supporting the androecium is the androphore, q.v.: androphorum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. androphoro, nom. & acc. pl. androphora, dat. & abl. pl. androphoris.
