A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
anantherus,-a,-um (adj.A): aantherous; without anthers, antherless, q.v.; “having no anthers. Applied only to filaments” (Lindley); anantherous, ‘anthEros, ‘flowering;’ applied to filaments destitute of anthers; see castratus,-a,-um (part.A), castrated, applied to staminodes or filaments of stamens without anthers (Stearn), or the anthers missing [> Gk. an-, without + anthEros, flowering];

- filamenta inferné subincrassata, exteriora nunc crassiora et rarius ananthera (B&H), the filaments below somewhat thickened, the external ones sometimes thicker and more rarely lacking anthers.

- stamina 9, libera v. basi brevissime connata, 3 longissima perfecta; 6 minora, antheris cassis v. ananthera (B&H), the stamens 9, free or at the base very shortly fused, the 3 longest perfect, with the anthers oblong; the 6 smaller, with empty anthers or lacking them.

- stamina 5, nonnulla saepe ananthera, libera v. inter se et cum corolla agglutinata (B&H), stamens 5, some often lacking anthers, free or between themselves and with the corolla glued together.

- stamina 5, omnia perfecta v. 1-3 ananthera, tubo corolla; agglutinata (B&H), stamens 5, all together perfect or 1-3 without anthers, glued to the tube of the corolla.

- stamina ananthera (staminodia) iis fertilibus alterna, stamens without anthers (staminodes) alternate to the fertile ones (Stearn 1983).
