A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

amphigaean, amphigean: amphigaeus,-a,-um (adj.A), “amphigean, native of both the Old and New Worlds” (Fernald 1950); amphigaean amphigean, “of a plant or animal found in both hemispheres, cosmopolitan; of a plant, having flowers arising from the rootstock (WIII); see -gaeus,-a,-um (adj.A);

- genus difficillimum amphigaeum, species vix 20 bene distinctas complectens (B&H), a most difficult amphigean genus, embracing scarcely 20 well separated species.

- regiones temperatas utriusque orbis incolunt, paucae amphigaeae, dwelling in temperate regions of both worlds (i.e. old and new), a few amphigean.

- species gerontogea v. amphigea a Cymbidieis columnae pede distinguenda (B&H), a species of the old world or amphigean distinguished from Cymidiea by the foot of the column.
