A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
alveolaris,-e (adj.B), alveolatus,-a,-um (adj.A): honeycombed, pitted, with depressions on the surface, as of spores; “honey-combed; when a flat surface is excavated into very conspicuous cavities, as in the receptacles of many Composites” (Lindley); “honeycombed; having angular depressions separated by thin partitions” (Fernald 1950); (fungi) “pitted like a honeycomb” (S&D); cf. lacunosus where the holes are somewhat larger than alveolate; see honeycombed, honeycomb-pitted;

- sporis alveolatis or alveolaribus, with spores alveolate.

- placentis subglobosis alveolatis (B&H), with the placentas subglobose, alveolate.

- receptaculum floribus leviter immersis foveolatum, foveolorum marginibus circa ovaria varie productis fimbrilliferum setosum v. alveolatum (B&H), receptacle foveolate with the flowers lightly immersed, with the margina of the

- receptaculi fimbrillae valde auctae et in massam concretae achaenia in alveolis omnino includunt (B&H), minute fringes of the receptacle strongly enlarged and grown together into a mass, they everywhere include the achenes into small cavities.
