A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
aerugineus,-a,-um (adj.A), aeruginosus,-a,-um (adj.A): aerugineous, aeruginose, bluish-green, the color of copper rust (verdigris, q.v.); “the blue-green color of verdigris” (Jackson); (fungi) “verdigris-green; blue-green; S II, 37 is a shade of Dark Bluish-Glaucous R XLII and near MP 28 H 4” (S&D); also venetus,-a,-um (adj.A), venice-blue [> Aerugo,-inis (s.f.III), q.v., the rust of a metal and esp. brass or copper, = verdigris, q.v.]; see patina,-ae (s.f.I); see verdigris;

- fungus digito pressus, dum recens est, illico glaucescit aut dilute aeruginosus evadit, the fungus, pressed with the finger, while it is fresh, immediately becomes glaucous or ends up dilutely blueish-green.

- totus fungus ubicunque infractus succum illico laeto aeruginosum edit, digitos inquinantem (S&A), the whole fungus when broken anywhere immediately issues a juice that is a vivid bluish-green, staining the fingers

. Byssus lanuginosa aeruginosa: “the pleasant green Verdegris Byssus” (Dill.).

(moss) Gymnostomum aeruginosum, named for its bluish-green color.
