A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
aegre (adv.), comp. aegrius (adv.); superl. aegerrime (adv.); : with difficulty, hardly, scarcely, barely, weakly; unwillingly; uncomfortably, vexingly; with difficulty, reluctantly; to cause trouble or grief; opp. facile (adv.): easily; comp. facilius (adv.); superl. facillime (adv.);

‘scarcely, hardly, barely:’ vix (adv.), q.v., aegre (adv.) (q.v.): vix is generally used; aegre means 'reluctantly, with difficulty' (Stearn);

- intra quam aegrissime extricabilis (S&A), within which it is extricable with the greatest difficulty.

- aegre exsiccabilis, desiccated with difficulty [scarcely exsiccable], .

- at siphonibus aegrius distinguendis (Agardh), but with the siphons with more difficulty to be distinguished.

- capsula valvis carnosis aegre dehiscentibus, capsule with valves fleshy hardly dehiscing (Stearn).

- capitulum foliis aegre expansis, capitulum with leaves scarcely expanded.

- haud aegre distinguitur, it is easily (i.e. not with difficulty) to be distinguished.

- a Nasturtio aegre distinguenda sunt (B&H), they are scarcely differentiated from Nasturtium.

- plantae a Samydaceis aegre separantur (B&H), the plants are scarcely separated from Samydaceae.

- species ab auctoribus variis recensitae numerosae, sed vix ultra 10 retinendae, et hae saepe valde variabiles et inter se aegre distinguendae (B&H), the species reckoned to be numerous by various authors, but scarcely more than 10 are to be retained, and these are often strongly variable and among themselves with difficulty distinguished.

- genus in sectiones 2, pro generibus variis auctoribus habitas et aegre distinguendas, divisum (B&H), a genus in two sections taken by various authors for genera and with difficulty distinguished.
