Virgo,-inis (s.f.III), abl. sg. virgine: a maiden, virgin; a young woman, girl; unwedded, pure; unused, unmarried; free of impurity or stain; unsullied; not yet disturbed, fresh, new, unspoiled; not previously handled; unstained, unprocessed; initial, first; youthful. pristine, untouched;

- ceterum in fungo virgine laevis, per lentem poros ostendens, ferrugineo - terrea, dein nigrescens (S&A), otherwise smooth in the fresh fungus, through a lens, revealing pores rusty-earth colored, ultimately blackening.

- In molendinariis parietibus, circa fossas udas in loco nuncupato ‘Quarto,’ necnon in monte supra templum Beatissimae Virginis de Saxo (Mich.), on the walls of mills, around wet ditches in the place called the ‘Quarto,’ also on the mountain above the temple of the most blessed Virgin de Saxo.

- in fornice fontis cujusdam diruti Eremuli Sanctissimae Virgini Маriae, & Divae Саtharinae V.ac М. dicati in summitate Моntis Мurelli (Mich.), on the arch [vault] of the well of some [i.e. unnamed] ruined little hermitage dedicated to the most Holy Virgin Mary and Saint Catharine V. and M. on the summit of Mount Murell.

[lichen] Umbilicaria virginis [=gen.sg.], L. Schaerer, a lichen collected by Louis Agassiz in the Bernese Alps, on the Jungfrau, in German, ‘the virgin.’

Deiparae Virginis Mariae [virgin Mary Mother of God] also name of Encyclical of Pope Pius XII; see deiparus,-a,-um (adj.A).
