A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Vegetation, growth, the process of plant-growth and plants in general (Jackson): vegetatio,-onis (s.f.III), abl. sg. vegetatione;

- vegetatione terminali et ramificatione carentibus, lacking terminal growth and branching.

- [Rhizophoraceae:] species ad 50, omnes intertropicae, multae littora limosa ad aestuaria fluviorum vegetatione arborea insalubri dense obumbrant (B&H), species to 50, all within the tropics, many densely overshadowing muddy shores at the aestuaries of rivers with unhealthy arboreal vegetation .

- limites vegetationis phaenogamici in regionibus polaribus montibusque altissimis attingit (B&H), it reaches the limits of phaenogamic vegetation [i.e. growth] in polar regions and very high mountains.

- [Protococcaceae] algae unicellulares sensu strictissimo chlorophyllosae, et vegetatione terminali et ramificatione vera carentes, sine cellularum generatione vegetativa (Wood, algae) unicellular algae in the strictest sense, chlorophyllose, lacking both terminal vegetation [i.e. growth] and branching, without a vegetative generation of cells.

- species intertropicae littora limosa ad aestuaria fluviorum vegetatione arborea insalubri dense obumbrant, the intertropical species the muddy shores at the estuaries of rivers with unhealthy woody vegetation densely cover over (Stearn).

- [algae] nemathecia itaque esse organa luxurianti vegetatione a normali functione aversa et partibus accessoriis (Pericarpio) tota constituta existimaverim (Agardh), and so I [would/could have] judged the nemathecia to be organs with luxuriant growth, in opposition to their normal function, and all constituted of accessory parts (the pericarpium).

- [algae] nulla hic per stadium vegetationis cellulae divisio (Braun), there is no division of the cell here [i.e. in this case] throughout the course of growth.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
