A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Vault, arch, 'fitted together in a circular form,' apse: absis or apsis,-idis, (s.f.III), abl. sg. abside or apside; absida,-ae (s.f.I), abl. sg. absida 'a vault, an arched roof, the interior of a vault;' camera,-ae (s.f.I), abl.sg. camera (also camara,-ae (s.f.I): chamber; fornix,-icis (s.m.III), q.v., abl. sg. fornice, q.v., vault, an arched structure; cf. tholus,-i (s.m.II), abl.sg. tholo, a domed chamber or building, cupola; see chamber; cf. galea, a hollow, vaulted structure in some perianths, such as an upper lip.

Palatum,-i (s.n.II), also palatus,-i (s.m.II), abl.sg. palato 'the palate as the organ of taste or of speech;' also a vault [> L. palatum,-I (s.n.II), “the roof of the mouth, palate; the dome or vault (of heaven), the sky” (Glare).
