A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Statura,-ae (s.f.I), abl.sg. statura: size, stature (of plants and animals) {> L. statura,-ae (s.f.I) ‘a standing upright, an upright posture; hence, height or size of the body, stature” (Lewis & Short); see height; tallness; see size;

- statura nana, flore erecto, sepalis obtusioribus (DeCandolle), with the stature diminutive [i.e. dwarf], with the flower erect, with the sepals more blunt.

- inter Fontinalem Lescurii et F. disticham intermedia, ab illo recedit gracilitate, foliis remotis angustioribus; ab hoc statura majore (Austin), intermediate between Fontinalis Lescurii and F. disticha, from that [the former] it recedes by the slenderness, by the leaves remote, narrower; from this [the latter] by the larger size.

- statura variabilis, pro genere minima, perpusilla, pusilla, parva, minor, mediocris, magna, major, vel maxima, size variable, for the genus very small indeed (the smallest), very small, very small (bigger than perpusilla), small, smaller, medium-sized, large, larger, or very large (the greatest).

- species nova a M. divaricata statura erecta distinguenda, new species from M. divaricata by its erect stature to be distinguished.

- pedunculo numquam statura caulem aequante, with the peduncle never equal in stature to the stem (acc.).

- a C. patente H. Karst. statura minore differt, from C. patente H. Karst. it differs by the smaller size.

- planta humilis staturae, a plant low in height (low in stature).

- producere vitem in tantam staturam, quantam permittit agricola, to bring forth a vine into such a size as the farmer allows.

- caules nec unquam staturam Scirporum majorum attingentes, the stems not ever attaining the height of the larger Scirpi.

- plantae quoad staturam mediocres, plants medium as to size.

- statura ingens sed curta (S&A), size huge [i.e. of immoderate size] but short.

- (moss) Catherinae canaliculutae proxima, differ t autem statura quater majore (Mueller), nearest to Catherina canaliculata, it differs however, by the height four times larger.
