A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Salinae,-arum (pl.f.I), abl. pl. salinis: saltworks, salt pits; salt-pans, salterns, salt deposits left behind when salt water evaporates in a depression in the ground.

Salinae,-arum (pl.f.I), “a district of Rome by the Porta Trigemina” (Glare).

- In pratis humidis littoralibus Italia, & in locis ubi per hyemen aqua stagnant, signanterque circa salinas ostienses, juxta Оrbetellum, ac per Plumbini pascua mense Магtio florer (Michelli), it flourishes in the wet meadows on the shores of Italy, and in places when water stands in pools through winter [i.e. the rainy season] and specifically around the salt-pans of Ostia [at the mouth of the Tiber], between Orbetellum and throughout the meadows of Plumbini [Piombino] in the month of March.

- Hab. in fossis subsalsis salinarum, it grows in the brackish ditches of salt works.

- [alga] Hab. in fossis subsalsis salinarum; prope Cette, mense aprilis, legi (Agardh), Habitat: I collected it i the month of April in brackish ditches of the salt works near Cette.

- [alga] in mari substagnanti tranquilliori ut in salinis, etc. (Agardh), in nearly stagnant, more tranquile sea, as in a saltworks, etc.

- [alga] in salinis Tergestinisi (Agardh), in the saltworks of Trieste (Tergestum).

Erodium crassifolium var. salinarium [= of the salt-works], foliis pubescentibus. Juxta salinas Arnacae in ins. Cypro. (DeCandolle), with pubescent leaves. Beside the salt-works of Arnaca on the island of Cyprus.

Cosmetira salinarum, a paludicolous Medusa (pelagic zoophyte) of the environs of Cette (now Sete, France, possessing an enclosed salt-water lake), found in the discharging-canal [a marsh ditch] of the salt-works of Villeroy near Cette (Dr. DuPlessis). The canal is 2-3 meters wide, one deep; the water is immovable.

Elytrigia intermedia subsp. trichophora: “type locality “prope Tergestum ad salinas” near Trieste, Italy, at the saltworks.
