A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Rhiza,-es (s.f.I), root: apparently the noun rhiza (s.f.I),-es, ‘root,’ is also declined like Botanica,-es (s.f.I) and America,-es (s.f.I) in Latin; see Botany, see America,-ae (s.f.I); see First Declension;

    singular  plural
Nom.  rhiza   rhizae
Gen.  rhizes  rhizarum
Dat.  rhizae  rhizis
Acc.  rhizen  rhizas
Abl.  rhize   rhizis
NOTE: apparently generic names do not derive from this noun, but from the adjective suffix –rhizus,-rhiza or –rhizum (adj.A): e.g.

Pachyrhizus,-i (s.m.II), Rich. in DC.

Glycyrrhiza,-ae (s.f.I); Jateorhiza,-ae (s.f.I), Streblorhiza,-ae (s.f.I); Xanthorhiza,-ae (s.f.I).

NOTE: in B&H, the abl.sg. is –a, not –e.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
