Manuscriptum,-i (s.n.II), abl.sg. manuscripto, nom. & acc. pl. manuscripta.

Abbrev. ms. or MS. = singular; mss. or MSS. plural.

manuscript (Eng. adj.) “> L. ‘manu scriptus’, written by hand, fr. manu (abl. of manus, hand + scriptus, past. part. of scribere, to write: written by hand or typed, not printed” (WIII).

Manuscript (Eng.noun) > ML manuscriptum from neuter of L. manu scriptus: “a composition written by hand; a composition written by hand (not printed) (after WIII).

- C. AUBLETII (Ging. mss.) (DeCandolle), Calyptrion aubletii (Ging. (unpublished) manuscripts.

- inter manuscripta Hedwigiana nihil aderat, nisi icon, locus natalis et iconis explicatio. Secundum iconem ab hypno pulchello Dicksonii, sive Leskea pulchella Hedw. differt: trunco longiore, foliis non acuminatis (Schwaegr. in Hedw.), nothing useful existed among the Hedwigian manuscripts except an illustration, the native place and the explication [i.e. the caption] of the picture. [The species] differs, according to the illustration, from Hypnum pulchellum of Dickson, or Leskea pulchella Hedw. by the stem longer, the leaves not acuminate.
