A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Lazulum,-i (s.n.II), abl.sg. lazulo: (Medieval Latin) heaven, sky (Wiktionary); the word derives from an Arabic word derived from a Persion word meaning sky, heaven (Wikipedia “Lapis lazuli” accessed Sept. 2022).

Lapis,-idis (s.m.III) lazuli (gen.sg. of lazulum), abl.sg. lapide lazulo, the stone of heaven. A stone, when powdered, yields “the finest and most expensive of all blue pigments” (Wikipedia); see lazulinus,-a,-um (adj.A); see ultramarine blue; see azureus,-a,-um (adj.A).

Cyanum,-i (s.n.II), abl.sg. cyano = Lapis lazuli (Galen in Everett).

Cyanos,-i (s.m.II) or Kuanos Gk. “dark-blue enamel, esp. used to adorn armor; lapis lazuli blue copper carbonate; blue cornflower; a bird, perhaps the blue thrush, Turdus cyaneus; sea-water” (Liddell & Scott).

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
