Insertion, in leaves, the point of attachment, the mode or place of attachment of an organ or part; “the manner in which one part is inserted into or adheres to, or originates from another” (Lindley); (bryophytes) “the place or line of attachment of a structure; applied to leaves and branch on a stem, peristome, etc.” (Magill 1990); (fungi) “the manner or place of attachment of a stipe to the pileus” (S&D): insertio,-onis (s.f.III), abl.sg. insertione; see ‘attachment, point of;’
