Haeres,-edis [haeres, gen.sg. haeredis] (s.m/f III), a later form of the classical heres,-edis (s.m/f.III) (i.e. only ‘e,’ not ‘ae’ in the nom.sg. (the stem]: “a successor to the rights and liabilities of a a deceased person, heir; an heir, heiress, successor (to throne; one who succeeds (to other positions, liabilities, etc.); a son, child [,daughter] considered as an heir; one who owns a thing by right of succession (Glare); see vidua,-ae (s.f.I), widow; see erus (herus), -i (s.m.II)
