Fides,-ei (s.f.V), abl.sg. [see dies] trust in a person or thing, confidence, reliance, credence, belief; syn. fidellitas, fiducia, confiducia; credit; that which produces confidence or belief, the quality that produces confidence in a person, trustworthiness, faithfulness, conscientiousness, credibility, honesty; (in things) credibility, truth; fulfillment of a promise or oracle; good faith, sincerity; loyalty;

    - ex fide bona; ex bona fide; bona fide [abl.sgg.]: in good faith, sincerely, honestly, conscientiously.

- bona fides [nom.sg.] good faith, sincerity.

- fidem habere: to be credible.

- fidem habere (+ dat.): to place trust (in), give credence (to), to place confidence in (after Glare).

- with dat [fidei]; trustworthiness, reliability; being worthy of belief.

- “a piece of evidence for a statement, proof, confirmation: fides penes auctores erit, evidence or proof is to be found in the authorities; - authoritativeness, certainty; ex fide: in good faith.

Fides,-ei (s.f.V): the faith, the Christian religion as a system of belief;

- f. d.: defensor fidei, defender of the Faith.

- King Charles III, d. g. [gratia dei] rex f. d. [defensor fidei], King Charles III, king by the grace of god, defender of the Faith.

- auctoribus nullis fidem adhibui praeter Celeberr.
