A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Ericetum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. ericeto: place or places dominated by species of the genus Erica (Heath, Heather); “tracts of country called Heaths [Erica]” (Jackson); typically associated with heath- and moor-land (dwarf-shrub) habitats or open woodlands on acidic substrates of which it is an indicator species (i.e. it is a calcifuge); see heath (Eng.noun); see –etum,-i (s.n.II);

- in ericeto Hounslejano versus Hampton, on Hounslow Heath towards Hampton (Stearn in Ray).

- Patria: In ericetis locisque siccis ad aggeres graminosos per totam Europam dispersum (JaegerSauerb.), native place. In ericeta and dry places on grassy hills dispersed throughout all Europe.

- annuus videtur Muscus, frequens ad vias & semitas humidiores arenosas, præfertim in ericetis (Dill.), it seems an annual moss, frequent [i.e. common] on the wetter sandy roads and lanes, especially in Heather [i.e. Erica or moorland] associations.

- vulgaris crescit species excentrica in ericetis ac pinastretis, a common species [growing one-sided] in Erica associations and wild pine.

- [Juncus] In agro Florentino locis montosis, & humectis, tum etiam per ericeta obvius (Mich.), encountered in the Florentine region in mountainous regions, and wet ones, and also throughout heaths [Erica-dominated].

- [moss] in ericetis prope Kowimanila Novae Hollandiae australis in vicinia loci Port Adelaide dicti (C. Muell.), in the heathlands near Kowimanila, southern New Holland (Australia) in the neighborhood of the place called Port Adelaide.

- [fungi] vulgatissima species, in ericetis ac pinastretis ubique nimia (S&A), an extremely common species, super abundant everywhere in heathlands and Pinastrum communities.

- [fungi] sparsim, sed haud infrequenter, in ericetis, secus margines sylvarum inque sylvis acerosis ipsis crescenteni (S&A), growing sparsely but hardly infrequent in heathlands, along the margins of forests and in the very needle-leaves woodlands themselves.

- [fungi] viget in ericetis pinetisque sicciusculis, ad vias arenosas sylvaticas (S&A), it flourishes in rather dry heathlands and pinelands, on sandy forest roads.
