A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Cyphella,-ae (s.f.I): a cyphella; “pale wart-like spots, found on the under surface of the thallus of some Lichens” (Lindley); “collections of gonidia in the form of cups’ (Lindley); [in pl.) “orbicular fringed spots like dimples, under the thallus of Lichens” (Jackson); small cuplike pit on the lower surface of the thallus of certain lichens, probably functioning as a pore” (WIII)(> Gk. kyphos, crooked, ‘bent,’ sec. Jackson); Gk. kyphella (nom.pl.II) “hollows of the ears; clouds of mist” (Liddell & Scott)]; cf. pseudocyphella,-ae (s.f.I).

Cyphelia: “collections of gonidia in the form of cups” (Lindley): see cyphella,-ae (s.f.I).

Cyphella,-ae (s.f.I): genus of cup-shaped basidiomycetous fungi “having the hymenial lining on the inner surface” (WIII) (Thelephoraceae > Cyphellaceae)
