A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Coppice (Eng.noun), copse: “a thicket, grove or growth of small trees that are cut on a short rotation, a copse’ a forest originating mainly from sprouts or root suckers as opposed to one derived from seed” (WIII); trees or shrubs “cut back so as to produce shoots from old stumps” (WIII): ); sylvula,-ae (s.f.I), q.v., “copse, small wood” (Stearn in Ray); virgulta,-orum (pl.n.II), q.v., abl.pl. virgultis; arbustus,-a,-um (adj.A), set or planted with trees; coppiced; see lucus,-i (s.m.II); see grove; see thicket;

- ager (s.m.II) arbustus, abl. sg. agro arbusto (ager, q.v., a cultivated field), field set or planted with trees.

NOTE: “coppicing, in forestry, cropping the plantation by cutting the underwood every few years” (Jackson).

COPPICE, OR COPSE: TheLaw.com Law Dictionary & Black's Law Dictionary 2nd Ed.: a small wood, consisting of underwood, which may be cut at twelve or fifteen years’ growth for fuel (March 25, 2018).
