A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Compitum,-i (s.n.II), abl.sg. compitio, also competum,-i (s.n.II), abl.sg. competo, also compitus,-i (s.m.II), abl.sg. compito: “cross-roads” (Stearn in Ray); mostly in pl.; “a place where several ways meet, a cross-way, cross-road [> L. competo,-ivi or –ii, -itum 3. To meet or come together (Lewis & Short)];

- In areis & compitis, inque locis ruderatis ad semitas, aut etiam oleraceis frequens occurrit (Ray), in (open) areas and cross-roads, and on pathways in places with broken stone, or it even occurs frequenting cultivated (vegetable) places.

-[Verbena vulgaris] in areis & compitis (Ray), in open spaces and cross-roads.

- [Thlaspi fatuum Bursa pastoris dictum] Secus vias locis desertis & cultis, inque areis, compitis ac ruderibus passim provenit, totaque aestate floret, viget ac semen perficit (Ray), [The tasteless Thlaspi called Bursa pastoris (shepherd’s purse)] it is encountered here and there along roads in empty places and places in cultivation and in open spaces, cross-roads and rubbly places, it flowers throughout summer, it grows and perfects its seed.
