Clivus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. clivo: slope of a hill, sloping ground, a slope or incline; “a gently sloping height, a declivity, slope, an ascent, a hill, eminence, ascending road;” anything sloping, a slope, unevenness (Lewis & Short); see declivis,-e (adj.B), ‘downslope, descending;’ see acclivis,-e (adj.B), ‘upslope, ascending;’ see hill;

- clivorum, of the slopes, growing on slopes.

- glara vel scritha est clivus alpestris saxis deorsum conjectis cooptertus, a scree is an alpine slope wholly covered by rocks thrown downwards (Stearn).

- ad ripas et clivos montis calcarei prope fontes calidos, on [stream] banks and the slopes of a calcareous mountain near hot springs.

- in clivis rupestribus passim irriguis et circum fontes prope originem fluviorum Limmen-bight et Roper River (C. Mueller), in on rocky slope everywhere watered and around springs near the headwaters of the rivers limmen-bight and Roper River.

- Clivus Capitolinus, the Capitoline Hill in Rome; “the higher road ascending to the Capitol, a part of Sacra Via” (Lewis & Short).

Polianthes geminiflora var. clivicola, Draba clivicola, dweller on slopes.
