A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Caelum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. caelo: the sky, the heavens; the weather: see coelum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. coelo [> L. caelum,-i (s.n.II), “the sky or visible heavens, containing the sun, moon, and stars; the air (of heaven), atmosphere; (with various adjectives) atmospheric conditions; the sky as productive of climatic conditions; climate; climatic region, a clime; (as one part of the world, contrasted with ‘mare’ and ‘terra’)” (after Glare);

- position caeli, position of climatic region; “geographical situation in relation to climate, latitude” (Glare).

- caelum patens or caelum apertum, the open air.

- toto caelo, ‘by the whole of heaven,’ exceedingly, “completely, the width of the sky apart” (Stearn).

- lianae ad caelum tendentes, lianas stretching out to the sky.

- caelum imbridum (adj.A), rainy sky.

- caelum clarum (adj.A), a clear, bright, unclouded sky.

- domatiis irregulariter circularibus vel ellipticis toto coelo apertisque, with the domatia irregularly circular or elliptic exceedingly open.

a Floreali mense usque ad Brumalem caelum constanter serenum et nitidum (Desf.), from the (French Revolutionary) month Floreal to the (French) Revolutionary) month Brumal the weather [is] constantly clear and shining.
