Aspectus,-us (s.m.IV), abl. sing. aspectu: (overall or general) appearance, aspect, view, sight; see appearance, figura, shape, view; see facies,-ei (s.f.V); cf. habitudo,-inis (s.f.III), abl. sg. habitudine; also habitus,-us (s.m.IV), abl.sg. habitu: condition, aspect or general appearance, nature;

NOTE: “Lateral View of a Diatom frustule, when the valves are seen in front view, the girdle being then in side view” (Jackson): aspectus,-us (s.m.IV) lateralis (adj.B), in aspectu laterali, (abl.sg.) in lateral (i.e. side) view.

- aspectu ventrali (dorsali, frontali, laterali), in ventral (dorsal, frontal, side- or lateral) view.

- primore aspectu (abl.sg.), at first sight (Lewis & Short); see primoris,-e (adj.B), ‘the first, first’ = primo aspectu (abl.sg.), at first glance, sight = prima acie; see acies,-ei (s.f.V) = primo intuitu, at first glance.

- in aspectu fructuum articulatorum Desmodiorum spp., with the appearance of the articulated fruits of Desmodium species (Stearn).

- aspectu cingulari, (of Diatoms) in girdle view (from the aspect of the girdle).

- aspectu frontali, in frontal view.

- aspectu ventrali (dorsali, laterali), in ventral (dorsal, side) view.

- herba aspectu Saxifragae, herb with appearance of a Saxifrage.

- aspectu boreali, with a northern aspect [i.e. looking north]; aspectu australi, with a southern aspect; aspectu orientali, with an eastern aspect; aspectu occidentali, with a western aspect.

- haec species Psidio cattleyano Sabine primo aspectu similis, this species at first view is similar to Psidium cattleyanum.

- haec species Gladiolo permeabili D. Delaroche primo aspectu similis, this species at first sight is similar to Gladiolus permeabilis D. Delaroche.

-[synonym of Polytrichum; moss] Muscus Capillusve aureus minor, minus specioso nitore coloreque vivido, triftioreque aspectu (Dillenius), muscus or capillus aureus [i.e. golden], smaller, less showy in glossiness and vivid color, and with a more somber [i.e. dull] overall appearance [i.e. aspect].

- in aspectu fructuum articulatorum Desmodiorum spp., with the appearance of the articulated fruits of species of Desmodium.

- frútices glaberrimi, habitu et aspectu Sauvagesiae, ramis teretibus (B&H), the shrubs are absolutely glabrous, with the condition and appearance of Sauvagesia, with terete branches.

- aspectus totus est Leguminoseae, quibus congruit forma floris, staminibus perigynis, sepalis petalisque imbricatis, et (primo intuitu) forma ovarii (B&H), the overall appearance is of the Leguminosae, to which it corresponds in the shape of the flower, stamens, perigynia, with sepals and petals imbricate, and, at first glance, by the shape of the ovary.

- [lichen] Sporae Lichenum aut sunt 1° incolores (albae vel fere hyalinae, ubi accumulatae conspiciuntur, sub microscopio autem aspectus dilute flavi), aut 2° fuscescentes vel fuscae (Nyl.), the spores of the Lichens either, in the first degree, colorless (white or almost hyaline (when observed accumulated, under the mocroscope, however the appearance is a pale yellow), or in the second degree grayish-brown to a grayed brown.
