A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Aggregation (Eng.noun), an aggregate: aggregatio,-onis (s.f.III), abl. sg. aggregatione: an aggregation, as of species; see ‘group of species;’ massula,-ae (s.f.I), q.v., the collection of the microspores into masses of species in the Salviniaceae;

Aggregation: “the coming together of plants into groups (Clements)” (Jackson).

Aggregate Species: “a super-species, which may be compounded of more than one true species” (Jackson).

Aggregate: “a group of closely related species previously considered to be a single species from which the aggregate derives its name (e.g. the Hypnum cupressiforme agg. Is now thought to consist of six closely related species including H. cupressiforme s.s.)” Cf. grex, gen.sg. gregia (s.m.III), q.v., a group of closely related taxa; a group of species or hybrids.

Abbr. agg. = Aggregate or Aggregation.

- aggregatio specierum (gen. pl.), abl. sg. aggregatione specierum, an aggregation or aggregate of species, species aggregate.

- microsporis numerosis in massulas aggregatis, with microspores numerous, aggregated into massulae.

- pseudocrusta tum e massa spermatica projecta in centro aggregationis satis crassa adest, substromatiformis, a pseudocrust then exists extended from a spermatic mass in the center of a quite thick aggregation, substromatiform.
