A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Aex, gen.sg. aegis (s.m/f III), abl.sg. aege = Gk. aix [ksi], gen.sg. aigos (s.m/f III), ‘a she-goat;’ “the name of a rocky island in the Aegean Sea, between Chius and Tenus” (Lewis & Short); see goat; see prefix aeg-, aego-, aegi-, q.v., in Gk. comp. a goat;

- “Aex nomine a specie caprae, repente e medio mari exsiliens” (Pliny), [the island:] ‘Aex’ with the name from a kind of goat, suddenly springing up from the middle of the sea.

Aegopodium,-ii (s.n.II), Goutweed, bishopsweed from Gk. aix, a goat + podion, a little foot. “It was once thought to cure gout. Umbelliferae” (Stearn 1996).

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
