A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Aerugo,-inis (s.f.III), abl. sg. aerugine: “the rust of a metal and esp. brass or copper, = verdigris, q.v.” (WIII); rust of copper; the verdigris prepared from the same (Lewis & Short) [> aes, gen. sg. aeris (s.n.III), copper, brass, bronze]; see rust;

- colore est amoene viridi, aerugini seu viridi aeris simili, quo ab aliìs speciebus facile distinguitur (Dill.), with the color a pleasant green, similar to the green of virdigris or copper, by which it is easily distinguished from other species.

Virdigris:

a. colore viridi aeris similis, similar to the green color of copper,

b. colore aerugini aeris similis, similar to the aerugo (rust) of copper.

Viridis aeris, the green of copper.

Aerugo aeris, the rust of copper.
