A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Acicula,-ae (s.f.I), abl.sg. acicula: “a bristle. The bristle-like abortive flower of a grass” (Lindley); “the bristlelike continuation of the rhachilla of a grass” (Jackson); 'a needle- or bristle-like structure (slender with a sharp point); the needle-like extension of the rachilla of a grass; (of animals and plants) a needlelike or bristlelike spine or prickle [> acicula,-ae (s.f.I), ‘a small pin for a head-dress’ (Lewis & Scott) > L. dim. acus,-us (s.f.IV) needle + -ulus)]; see rachilla;

- flores oppositi, decussati, magnitudîne capitis aciculae, ex albido lutei (Swartz), the flowers opposite, decussate, with the acicula [i.e. rachilla] with the size of the head, whitish to yellow.

Processus,-us (s.m.IV) hymenii [gen.sg. hymenium], abl. sg. processu hymenii: “the aciculae of certain Fungals” (Lindley).

Podolobium aciculiferum.
