A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
-biosis,-is (s.f.III), abl.sg. -biose, nom. & acc. pl. -bioses, dat. & abl. pl. -biosibus: an English noun suffix; in Gk. comp. a living, manner of life [> Gk. biOsis,-eOs, s.f.III, a living, manner of life]; see biosis,-is (s.f.III); adj. = -bioticus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v.;

- aerobiosis,-is (s.f.III) ‘life in the presence of air or oxygen (WIII); antibiosis,-is (s.f.III), “antagonistic association between organisms to the detriment of one of them or between one organism and a metabolic product of another (as that existing between certain bacteria and penicillin” (WIII); necrobiosis,-is (s.f.III), the death of a cell or cells; symbiosis,-is (s.f.III), two dissimilar organisms living in dependence on one another.

Anabiosis,-is (s.f.III), “a state of suspended animation induced in organisms (as rotifers) by desiccation and ending on return of moisture in resumption of normal life” (WIII) > Gk. ana-, again, anew (anagensis) + biosis,-is (s.f.III), living, manner of living.
