Poaceae (Gramineae)

A small genus of 5 species in temperate Eurasia. 3 species in the FSU.

M. caeruleum (L.) Moench

Europe, Caucasus, western Siberia and Middle East. Along streams, in wet meadows.

Stems 50-150 cm, clustered, solid, without joints (nodes) from the base. Leaf blades flat, linear, 0.3-1.0 cm wide. Panicles narrow, 80-50 cm long, dark purple. V - early spring to late autumn. Fl - mid summer to mid autumn. Fr - late autumn. P - by seed and division. Good for group planting on wet land. Z 4.
