Far East (Ussuriskiy region), Japan and China. In clearings, in
rocky places.
Shrub 3.5 m, with erect stems. Leaves oblong, 10-12 cm long,
densely spinulose-toothed. Flowers yellow, in long drooping
racemes. Attractive when displaying its coral-red ellipsoid fruits.
Very ornamental. Cold, frost and heat resistant. Z 5 (4).
Berberis integerrima Bunge - Barberry
Central Asia (Dzhungarskiy Alatau, Tien Shan, Pamiro Alay), Iran
and northwestern China. On rocky slopes.
Many-branched shrub, 3-4 m. Leaves leathery, oblong, 5 cm long.
Inflorescence axillary, with 10-25 flowers. Fruits purple-red.
Cold, frost and heat resistant. Z 5 (4). New.
Berberis nummularia Bunge - Barberry
Central Asia (Tien Shan, Pamiro Alay), Iran. On rocky slopes.
Tall shrub 3-4 m, with the reddish-purple young growth. Leathery
leaves almost rounded, 3 cm across. Long racemes of 20 and more
flowers are followed in the autumn by masses of bright red berries.
Dry resistant. Z 5 (4). New.
Berberis turcomanica Kar. - Barberry
Central Asia (mountains of Turkmenia). On rocky slopes. A large
vigerous shrub 4.0-9.0 m, with red-brown stems.
Leaves obovate, 4.0-5.5 cm long and 2.0-3.0 cm wide. Racemes
10-flowered. Fruits red-purple. Folige attractive. Related to
B. integerrima, differing in wider leaves, smaller inflorescence.
Very ornamental. Cold, heat and drought resistant. Z 5. New.
