45 species, in the southwestern Asia and Mediterranean, 16 in the FSU. Some species still are included in other genera. Thus Bellevalia paradoxa (Fisch. et C.A. Mey.) C. Koch very often is included in Pseudomuscari as P. paradoxum (Fisch. & C.A. Mey.) Garbari.

B. lipskyi (Miscz.) E. Wulf

Crimea. On grassy slopes, rarely in fields.

Bulbous plant 20-30 cm high. Bulb broadly ovate, 2-2.5 cm diam., with brown scales. Leaves 4 or 5, linear, slightly channeled, 15-20 cm x 1-5 cm. Flowers in cylindrical raceme, each bloom 0.8-1.0 cm long, with yellow-brown perianth. V - April to August. Fl - in May or June. Fr - July. P - by seed or daughter bulbs. Does well in sunny places. Needs shelter in winter in USDA zone 5 and colder. Good for the rock garden. New.

Central Asia (Pamiro Alay), on grassy slopes.

Dark blue flowers in a dense raceme. Ornamental.
